Young Israel of Kendall Board 2010-2011

Young Israel of Kendall has developed itself into one of the leading Modern Orthodox Shuls in South Florida. This has been accomplished in no small part as a result of the leadership of our board. Below is a list of names of some of those who have given back to the shul by serving on the Young Israel of Kendall Board Executive Board

President's Message

I started to write this message just hours after our welcome back barbeque. A few days before, I had come back from my vacation and after a hectic week at work I was not in the mood to go to what I thought of “another same old shul event”. Nevertheless, I went thinking that just a few people were going to show up. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of participants and so many new faces amongst them! It was really nice to see everyone there and to be reminded of what a great group of friendly individuals come to our shul. It really is great to belong to Young Israel of Kendall, we have a beautiful shul for a fantastic community! Everywhere, the summer months have a bad reputation (no one is in town, no need for activities, who wants to learn during vacation, etc) but here at YIOK, things definitely don’t slow down. After the huge success of the initial lecture of the tapestry series delivered by Elisha Attias, we had our second story teller, Yaacov Milbauer, who was just as fascinating. Thanks to both of them for sharing their wonderful stories. Back by popular demand, the SEED girls from Lakewood came back and the ladies and teenage girls had once again a superb series of learning and fun. We also had a great SEED program for boys and men with a group of young men from the Waterbury Yeshiva, led by our own Zev Becker. We are very grateful to all of them for coming to our community during their vacation time and sharing their knowledge. The Sisterhood ladies also made sure that the women of the shul kept busy during the summer months. They started with a very nice breakfast in honor of Robin Denison, this year’s Aishes Chayil that was very well attended. They worked very hard cleaning and organizing the kitchen and had lots of fun painting ceramics. On top of all that, they have been working on two very promising fundraisers that I urge everyone to participate. We are very grateful for all the contributions made by the Sisterhood to the shul. And speaking of fundraisers, at the beginning of the summer we started our Save Our Shul campaign in order to keep our shul above water. I wish to thank all the families that came forward and the head of the committee that made our 50k campaign a major success. Now we must move on and the Achdus campaign – which goal is to raise $72.000.00 with the participation of every shul member, will be in full swing in the weeks preceding Rosh Hashanah. Please participate and help us keep our promise of a great shul for a great community! An important part of this amazing community is our youth department. I would like to welcome our new youth directors Yossi and Adina Klugman who will be teaching our Hebrew school and will be in charge of all of the youth programs as well as coordinate all activities with NCSY for our shul’s chapter. We are very happy to have them become part of our shul family. As we prepare for the year 5772, I urge all of you to please get involved. I am sure that you can find a committee in which you will feel a sense of belonging and your participation will be greatly appreciated. We like it when you attend the different activities but we would love to see everyone involved in the planning also. Like I have said before, this is YOUR shul be a part of it! Last, but not least, I want to congratulate Rabbi Becker for the completion of his book “Love Peace: Blueprints for Lasting Relationships” which has been published and is now available. Also, congratulations to Bill Altfield on being appointed as Miami Dade County Court Judge by Governor Scott. Mazel Tov to both on them on these important accomplishments and lots of luck. I wish all of you a Shana Tova and Gmar Chatima Tova! Rully
